Comparing to other woodwinds, Clarinet is kind of younger woodwinds. The baroque Clarinet was popular in the late 18 century. It is developed from chalumeau which we can say is the ancestor of clarinet family.  The sound of baroque Clarinet is brighter so it can cover the trumpet parts. And the keys system is more closer to modern clarinet.
